What is a Rosmarinus?

Rosmarinus are hardy shrubby plants that can range in size from low growing spreading forms only 10cm high to larger upright forms which can grow to over 2m in height. Rosmarinus are grown for their aromatic needle like foliage and their masses of flowers in spring and summer which are most often blue or purple but there are forms with white or pink flowers. All are very attractive to bees and other pollinators.

Where to plant Rosmarinus?

Rosmarinus will grow best in full sun and moist but well drained soil. They make great patio plants where they may be on hand for your BBQ or kitchen. Rosmarinus can be grown in garden borders with other plants like cistus and lavender to create and Mediterranean look or alternatively alongside other herbs to make a herb garden.

How to care for Rosmarinus?

Rosmarinus are easy plants to grow. Water young and pot grown plants during dry spells. A light trim after flowering will reshape plants and pots grown plants can be moved to a frost free area so that the foliage stays fresh over winter.
