Forsythia or sometimes called the Easter Tree are flowering plants from the olive or Oeaceae family. Most are native to eastern Asia with one found in Europe.

What is a Forsythia?

Forsythia are early flowering deciduous shrubs. They vary in height from 0.5m to over 3m tall. Forsythia flowers are bright golden yellow and carried along the stems of the plants in early spring creating a stunning display. Narrow green foliage follows.

Where to plant Forsythia?

Forsythia like full sun or partial shade and moist but well drained soil. Small forms can be grown in patio pots but Forsythia are most often planted in garden borders mixed with other plants, as feature plants or as flowering hedging or screening.

How to care for a Forsythia?

Once established Forsythia are easy to look after. Water young and pot grown plants during dry spells. If pruning is required to reshape a plant do this immediately after flowering to ensure good flowering next year. Older plants may need old or dead wood removing or thinning to promote fresh young growth that will have better flowers.
