Plant Information

Allium schubertii bulbous perennial originating in the Eastern Mediterranean with strap shaped bright green leaves which die back before flowering, flowers are produced on stems 45cm high with rounded heads up to 30cm across with up to 50 star shaped flowers on stalks of differing lengths creating the effect of an exploding flower head! Best grown in full sun in a free draining soil, for best results combine with late emerging perennials and plant in clumps.

Allium schubertii bulbs go dormant after flowering so it is important to plant them where you will not disturb them, often they will start to seed around the base of the plant and in time a clump will form, if these become congested then the bulbs can be dug up and moved whilst they are dormant to develop new clumps. If left after flowering the seed heads will dry in the sun and are attractive if left.
