Plant Information

Allium Purple Rain bulbous perennial with strappy grey green foliage which starts to wither as the flowers are formed through June these are globes of deep purple flowers 20cm in diameter on tall stems 90cm high, excellent in a mixed border for best results plant in clumps. Will produce paler pink seedlings if allowed to seed. Hardy, best in full sun in any well drained soil.

Allium Purple Rain bulbs go dormant after flowering so it is important to plant them where you will not disturb them, often they will start to seed around the base of the plant and in time a clump will form, if these become congested then the bulbs can be dug up and moved whilst they are dormant to develop new clumps.
