Plant Information

Allium Gladiator is a recent introduction with deep green strappy leaves and in summer enormous balls up to a 30cm across of lilac-purple flowers held on 1m stems Jun-July, being sterile the flowers persist and hold their colour for longer than other varieties and it spreads rapidly through division of the bulbs. Excellent in a mixed border for best results plant in clumps , best in full sun in any well drained soil.

Allium Gladiator bulbs go dormant after flowering so it is important to plant them where you will not disturb them, Gladiator is sterile so will not produce seed but the bulbs will expand and time a clump will form, if these become congested then the bulbs can be dug up and moved whilst they are dormant to develop new clumps. If left after flowering the seed heads will dry in the sun and are attractive if left.
