Plant Information

Allium christophii syn A. Albopilosum. A bulbous perennial with ribbed stems and strappy glaucous leaves with marginal hairs which start to wither as the flowers are produced. In early summer large rounded flower heads up to 20cm across are produced with up to 50 small pinkish purple star shaped flowers with a metallic sheen. The flower heads can be dried or left in the border where they remain a feature through the winter for best results plant in clumps for best results plant in clumps. Best planted in full sun and most free draining soils.

Allium christophii bulbs go dormant after flowering so it is important to plant them where you will not disturb them, often they will start to seed around the base of the plant and in time a clump will form, if these become congested then the bulbs can be dug up and moved whilst they are dormant to develop new clumps. If left after flowering the seed heads will dry in the sun and are attractive if left.
