Nepeta or Catmint are aromatic flowering perennial plants that are members of the mint or Lamiaceae family. They are native to Africa, Europe and Asia.

What is a Nepeta?

Nepeta are small hardy perennial plants ranging in size from less than 0.5m to 1m tall. Nepeta foliage is aromatic and as the common name suggests is attractive to cats, with colours in shades of green and also silvers and greys. Nepeta have a long flowering season over the summer. The flowers can be white, blue, pink or purple and are very attractive to bees and other pollinators.

Where to plant Nepeta?

Nepeta like full sun or partial shade and moist but well drained soil. They can be pot grown or planted in the garden border grouped with other plants to create cottage garden or Mediterranean planting styles.

How to care for a Nepeta?

Nepeta are easy to grow plants. Water pot grown and young plants in dry spells. Trim spent flowers to encourage more flowering and cut back old foliage in early spring to encourage fresh new growth.
