Hebe ochracea James Stirling

A whip chord variety which originated in New Zealand, named after James Stirling from Wellington. A slow growing shrub which produces a flat plant which looks like a golden conifer! The leaves are tiny and flat against the stem looking more like scales than leaves, in May and June short spikes of pure white flowers are produced at the tips of the shoots. An unusual looking plant which is superb in a rockery or front of border. Height 40cm x 60cm. Hardy.

Hebe Oratia Beauty

Introduced in New Zealand in Oratia. Rounded evergreen shrub with glossy mid green leaves. From July onwards dense racemes 7cm in length are produced which are deep pink in bud, opening pink and then rapidly fading to white from the base up creating a bi colour effect. Hardy. Height 70cm x 70cm.

Raised by Graham Hutchins at County Park Nursery in Essex and first launched in the UK by Lowaters Nursery. Compact evergreen shrub with an upright habit. The leaves are deep green and in the winter months and spring turn a striking deep burgundy colour. June and July masses of pale purple / blue flowers are produced on short racemes. Easy to grow and excellent for use in gardens and as part of a mixed winter display in a container. Height 50cm x 50cm.

Raised by Graham Hutchins at County Park Nursery in Essex. Low spreading shrub with small, rounded dark green leaves with a purplish edge, in the summer long loose racemes up to 10cm bearing pale mauve-pink flowers are produced. Height 30 x 50cm Evergreen. Hardy.

Hebe pimeloides Quicksilver

Raised by Graham Hutchins at County Park Nursery in Essex in the 1960's. This variety is a seedling which is an improvement on the species having much brighter silver foliage. A spreading shrub with an open habit and dark brown / black stems which contrast well with the small silver blue leaves which are 5mm in length. In July and August spikes of purple flowers are produced. Best grown in full sun to give the most intense colour. Height 50cm x 75cm. Hardy.

Hebe pinguifolia Pagei

A popular variety which was named after Edward Page from Dunedin Botanical Gardens in New Zealand. A low spreading shrub with glaucous blue / silver foliage which is rounded and 7mm in length. In June and July rounded, branched spikes of flowers are produced which cover the plant and are pure white in colour. An excellent variety for mass plantings or as groundcover which requires little or no maintenance. Height 30cm x 1m. Hardy.

Hebe Pink Elephant

A sport of H. Red Edge that was found at Ashwood Nurseries by Mark Walberton. A compact mound forming variety with glaucous rounded leaves with a red edge. In the winter months the new growth develops buttery yellow irregular margins and the tips and young leaves have a pinkish red colouration. In summer white flowers are produced, but the plant is promarily grown for its foliage. Excellent as a border or rockery plant or as a mass groundcover planting. Height 60cm x 1m. Hardy.

A compact hardy variegated Hebe discovered by Doug Thomson in Ireland as a sport on H. Mrs Winder. The narrow lime green leaves are edged yellow and contrast well against the purple stems andf young growth, during the winter and early spring foliage turns to a stunning deep purple colour.
