Hebe Heartbreaker

A sport of H. Dazzler discovered in the Netherlands. A mound forming variety which is grown for its white variegated foliage with a green centre which turns vivid pink from November until May, occasional purple flowers are produced but the plants is primarily grown for its unique foliage. Raised at the famous gardens in Gloucestershire, a large leaved variety with large pale lilac and white flowers carried on upright racemes in the tops of the plant 15cm+ in length in late summer. A striking plant well suited to planting as a specimen or in a mixed border. Height 1.8m x 1.5m.

Hebe Lady Ardilaun

An old variety named after Lady Amy Ardilaun and often sold as H. 'Amy'. An upright growing plant with highly glossy deep green leaves which turn deep reddish purple in the winter, from July until the first frosts racemes of rich violet flowers are produced. Height 1m x 1m. May need some winter protection in colder areas.

syn H. Hartii. A mound forming spreading shrub with small mid green leaves, in may and June large numbers of flowers are produced on racemes 5cm long these are lavender when they open and fade to white from the base up. Height 30cm x 1m. Excellent for use as groundcover and in containers.

Hebe macrocarpa var. brevifolia

Another native form from New Zealand. Very different to the species this variety makes a low spreading shrub with leathery deep green glossy leaves 7cm long. From July until the first frosts large numbers of rich reddish pink flowers are prooduced in open pointed racemes up to 7cm in length. Height 50cm x 1m. May need some protection in colder areas.

This variety is native to the Coromandel area of New Zealand on the North Island. Similar to the species but this variety has golden stems and dark purple flowers.

A distinctive variety with an architectural upright habit. This is a naturally occuring species which is native to the North Island of New Zealand. The leaves are thick and leathery, mid green in colour and contrast with the brown stems. The flowers are produced in racemes up to 15cm in length with pure white flowers, these are produced in November and in milder areas or winters will continue through the winter. Height up to 2m.

This hybrid variety was raised in north Yorkshire at Rocklands Nursery in the 1980's. A compact mound forming shrub with deep green glossy leaves and from May untill July masses of light blue flowers which fade to white are produced. This is a very hardy and easy to grow variety. Hebe Midnight Sky

Raised at Lowaters Nursery as a seedling of unknown parentage and first sold in 2007. Midnight Sky has deep green leaves which are 5cm in length and in the winter months turn a stunning deep purple almost black colour with a bright glossy sheen. The flowers are a purple mauve colour but are produced in very small numbers and the pant is mainly grown for its lustrous winter foliage. Height 1.5m x 1m. Hardy. A classic variety that was raised by Seaford, East Sussex in the 1950's a cross between H. Mrs Fittall and H. speciosa. An upright shrub with lanceolate leaves up to 10cm in length which are bright green with a distinct midrib. From July untill November long racemes up to 30cm in length with light purple flowers which fade to white from the base giving the appearance of a bi colour flower - these are the longest flowers of any Hebe. Height 1.5m.

Compact evergreen shrub - one of the older Hebe varieties available. The leaves are lanceolate up to 5cm in length often with a distinctive tooth and deep green, turning rich purple in winter to early spring. Mauve flowers occasionally in late summer, though the plant is primarily grown for its winter foliage colours. Height 1m x 1m. Hardy.

A sport of H. Wiri Vogue found at Lowaters Nursery and first sold in 2006. The leaves are pale green with irregular creamy white margins and a purple edge to the leaf, the undersides of the new leaves are purple which makes the tips of the shoots purple. The flowers are rounded racemes up to 7cm in length with deep purple flowers in late summer. Height 1m x 1m.
