Hebe albicans
Compact bushy variety forming a dense mound of bright glaucous silver grey foliage, in june and july masses of flowers appear which are pink in bud opening to pure white and carried in broad racemes up to 5cm long. It is an attractive variety which is well suited to containers, borders and landscape plantings. Height 40cm x 50cm. Fully hardy in the UK. This species is one of the naturally occuring New Zealand species from the south island.
Hebe Autumn Glory
A well known variety which has been in cultivation for a long time, believed to have originated as a seedling in Ireland at the turn of the last century. In Summer the rounded leaves are dark green with a purple margin which spreads in the colder winter months to produce a red purple effect to the plant. From July to October prolific racemes are produced, these are stubby and rounded - the flowers are violet / purple in colour with contrasting white pollen Height 65cm x 75cm (2.5ft). Hardy, though may have some tip damage in cold areas.
Hebe Baby Blush
Raised by Lowaters nursery from a range of open pollinated seedlings and selected as an improvement on Nicola's Blush. Forms a tidy compact mound with olive green foliage which turns deep purple hues in the colder winter months, rounded racemes 4 cm long of rich pink flowers in June and July. Height 65cm x 65cm (2.5ft). Easy to grow and relatively trouble free. Hardy. Provides a long selling season. BABY BLUSH EU 9861 PVR applies Propagation for resale is illegal without a license.
Hebe Baby Marie
syn. H. buxifolia Nana. A very dense compact shrub with tiny deep green leaves arranged in pairs up the stems, it is one of the earliest varieties to flower in April through May, producing many upright racemes of flowers 2 to 3cm long which are pink in bud opening lilac pink and fading to white. A trouble free variety which is particularly striking as a flowering plant. Excellent for use in a rockery or patio container. Height 40cm x 40cm. Hardy.
Hebe Black Knight
Selected by Lowaters Nursery and introduced in 2007, this seedling has medium sized leaves which are deep purple through the winter months with the colour remaining well into the summer, from July onwards deep purple / blue flowers are produced with white pollen, these are stubby and rounded - similar to autumn glory in shape but slightly larger. Height 50cm x 50cm. May need some winter protection in colder areas.
Hebe Blue Gem
Medium sized shrub with large, rounded glossy green leaves often seen growing in coastal areas. The variety is vigorous and produces a striking display of purple / blue flowers in June and july which continue in smaller numbers untill Autumn. Height 1.5 to 2m with a similar spread. In colder areas winter protection may be needed and damage can occur to the foliage and tips.
Hebe Blushing Bride
A new selection first sold from the nursery in 2009. An attractive variegated plant which forms a loose shrub, the leaves are narrow and up to 5 cm in lenth with a creamy margin and green centre, in june and july many flowers are produced which are pink in bud, opening to pink and fading to white from the base which gives the appearance of a bi colour flower. Height 65cm x 65cm Hardiness not yet known.
Hebe Bronze Glow (Lowglo)
Raised by Lowaters nursery 2010 is the first launch for this new variety. The plant has a compact freely branching habit and in winter the small rounded leaves turn a striking bronze colour with tips that almost glow in the winter sunshine. In may racemes 6cm long of pale blue flowers are produced at the tips. The variety has demonstrated excellent disease resistance and performs well in containers and in a garden situation. We are sure this variety will become a long term winner.
Hebe Caledonia
A very popular garden variety which forms an attractive open shrub. Caledonia has a very long period of interest with striking burgundy foliage and stems through the colder months (November to May) the leaves then turn green against a red stem and in July and August stubby racemes 3cm long of purple flowers are produced, a second flush and sporadic flowers may then develop through into early winter. Height 50cm x 50cm. A trouble free garden plant which responds well to trimming.
Hebe Carl Teschner
syn H. 'Youngii' a prostrate variety which forms a dense spreading mound. The leaves are small and deep green and in June and July almost disappear under a mass of violet flowers with white throats which fade to white. Height 20cm x 60cm .Easy to grow and usefull for the front of a border, rockery or patio container, its compact habit also makes it ideal for landscape plantings as a ground cover.
Hebe Carnea Variegata
An elegant garden shrub with attractive variegated foliage which is pale green with an irregular creamy white margin the new growth is flushed with pink. In July and August a stunning display of flowers is produced, racemes 7 to 8cm in lenth are formed at the tips these are a rich pink and fade to white from the base giving the appearance of a bi colour flower. Height 1m x 1m. In cold winters or areas will need protection from heavy frost and cold winds. Superb as a patio plant in a container.
Hebe Champagne
Compact variety that produces a neat mound, the slender olive green leaves have a lustrous sheen and are offset by the purple stems, in winter the leaves develop a bronze hue. From July to September numerous racemes of pale mauve flowers are produced which quickly fade to white. Height 50cm x 90cm. Excellent in the front of a border or rockery.
Hebe Clear Skies
Raised by Graham Hutchins at County Park Nursery in Essex. This variety has unique silver blue foliage and produces an open spreading plant, the leaves are silvery blue with a red edge, arranged in opposite pairs on the stems giving a cross like appearance. In June and July small racemes of pale blue fowers with a white centre are produced, often in clusters. Height 30cm x 50cm. Excellent in a rockery or patio container. Hebe diosmifolia
The name means foliage like a Diosma. Forms a dense mound with mid green glossy leaves and brownish stems, in June and july unusual almost ball shaped corymbs are formed with masses of small pale mauve, almost white flowers. This variety is a species which is native to the North Island of New Zealand and may need some winter protection in the UK. Height 1m x 1m.
Hebe diosmifolia Wairua Beauty
Compact multi branched shrub which forms a tidy mound pale lime green leaves which are small and narrow. In June and July (for 4weeks) a mass of heliotrope mauve flowers are produced in corymbs at the ends of shoots, these are larger than the species. The plant was discovered as a sport of the species in Wairua in New Zealand hence the name. May need some winter protection in colder areas. Height 1m x 1m.
